Steve needed a ride to pick up his car at lunchtime today.  We dropped by KNH before for lunch.

I got the #15 Large Special Pho.  Really good, but I only drank 1/2 the broth.  I drank 2 cups of coffee and 1 cup of green tea, before I know we were coming here.  I was already full of water.

Will's Back in Town

Dinner today -> Potluck
Since Will was back in town visiting from San Francisco, we had a pot luck dinner at Linda and Jeff's house.
I made chicken pad thai.  I used 8 medium chicken thighs, 5 eggs, 1 full bag of sprouts, 1 jar of sauce, and 1/2 bag of rice noodles.  This made almost 1/2 a pot full of pad thai.

Ben mad a mixed vegetables plate with green beans, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms.  He also brought kimchi.

Late Night Double Header

Useless Softball News:
CMC Strike Fighters played a late night double header softball match vs Lockheed tonight.
Game 1: we won 14-8.  Stefano was finally allowed by his doctors to play again, and with his 2nd at bat, he hit a 3 run home run.  Boy have we missed his power.  Mark pitched a good game, but our defence didn't help him too much.
I had 2 errors, but I hit 2-for-3; Single, Double (almost a center field HR, just need to follow through with the bat), and Fielder's Choice.

Game 2: we won 20-10.  We played pretty poorly defensively for John (game 2 pitcher) at the start, but then we picked it up.  I made a double play (1st one ever)! 
I hit 3-for-4; 3 Singles, and Opposite field fly-out at the fence (if I followed through with the hit, I think it would have been a HR). 
MVP = Marc.  He hit 3-for-4 with a his 1st Home Run of the season.

Got a package in the mail today.  It was my SDCC Magic: the Gathering Planeswalkers set.
I got on eBay for $250 with shipping.  These 5 cards are already selling for $500 on StarCityGames.

Weekend Report: Dungeoness Crab

Food this weekend ->
On Friday, Steve, Ed, and I went to Mr.Chopsticks.  We thought it was a Chinese restaurant.  Boy were we wrong.  It's a Chinese fast food joint like in a mall.  All the food is pre-cooked.  You order your 3 items + rice/noodle + drink/soup and they put it in a tray.  I guess this is ok if you're in a hurry, but not what I expected.  It's no Rideau Restaurant.

I ordered the Japanese Ramen.

It was not good.  It wasn't white miso broth.  The meat was wrong.  And the noodles tasted like spaghettini.  Ed and I probably aren't coming back.

I boiled/steamed some Dungeness Crab I bought from Walmart.

It's pretty good and there is alot in the bag.  I slowly ate the whole thing over 1.5hrs while watching a Korean variety show called "Running Man".  The show is really good and fun.  (ie drink Lemon Tea Mission: roll a D12 to determine the # of lemons to squeeze in you cup.  Then randomly pick a spoon size -ear pick to garden shovel- for the amount of sugar to put in.  Top it off with hot tea (if there is any space left).  Muscles got 11 lemons and 1 ear pick of sugar LOL)

I also got some steak from Walmart.  I was iffy about this, because the last time I bought fish from there, it was terrible.  This steak turned out OK.

Super busy day today.  Was planning to go to the new Mr.Chopsticks for lunch to try them out, but couldn't.  It's beside Hockey Sushi.  Don't know if they're any good yet.
They claim they have Japanese Ramen: O15 BBQ Pork Ramen on page 7.  Picture is on page 6.  It looks like what Ben and I ate in Odaiba Tokyo.  If they truely have this, it should be really good, but it's a really big IF.

Useless TV News:
I watched some "Sharknado" last week.  It's the stupidest movie.  I can't unwatch it!  Why is this movie so popular on TV and Twitter?  This week was Sharktopus (half-shark and half-octopus)!  Apparently the Shartopus is bulletproof.  This was sooo stupid that I couldn't stop watching!  Next week is 2-headed Shark Attack.

Anyone want to bid on my Foil Tarmgoyf from Future Sight?  It's only at $4.25.  Oops, wrong decimal spot.  It's only at $425.00!  :)

Dinner today -> Fish Maw Soup.
Fish Maw Soup from T&T on Monday.  This is really good and it's thick too.  Maybe abit too thick because I had to add some water, but it's better thick than runny.  Re-heated and added some red vinegar and pepper.

This was on the news yesterday, a fist fight between to 2 Olympic badminton players.  I say kick these players out for life.  Why are Thai competitors on Team Canada anyways?  Shouldn't Canadians be on Team Canada?

CMC Strike Fighters lost to Da Knobs 23-3 tonight.  We played right after it rained and the field was wet and muddy.  Mark's pitching was really good, but our defense didn't match his pitching.  I made a few plays, but I also messed up a couple plays.

Useless Survival News:
I saw this on TV, the Life Straw.  It filters any water source for safe drinking!  This is so cool.  I think it is available at the Ottawa Scout Store on Merival/Baseline.  I'm going to try and pick one up and use it to drink everything.  The filter is suppose to last 1000 litres or 1 year.

CD covers for AKB48's "Koi suru Fortune Cookie" ("KFC") are out.  I like them.  It fits the reto-song's theme.  Type K featuring Yuko is nice :)

Pacific Rim feels like a Mix of Movies

Useless Movie News:
My last day of staycation today and I went to see Pacific Rim this morning.  The new baby prince was born while I was watching giant mechs and monsters battle to the death.
Pacific Rim is really entertaining with good action, but none of the content/storyline was unique except for the water battles.  To me the movie seemed to have taken parts from Godzilla, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gunbuster.  There were alot of parts that I thought, "This is just like Eva/Gunbuster".  It didn't bother me much since I like Evangelion and Gunbuster.
I would watch this movie again, and I have a feeling I'll end up buying this.  If it shows up on TV when I flip channels, I would stop to watch this.
FYI: There is a small scene after the initial credits.
The trailers before Pacific Rim sucked except for "Seventh Son".  Checkout the trailer.

Pan seared a salmon fillet.  The bottom was cooked through with the top still rare.  Served it with Pita bread and some sour cream mixed with some dill.

Weekend Report: 4-Day Staycation

I'm in the middle of my 4 day staycation.  Friday morning I went to watch Despicable Me 2 at Centrum.  Did you know "before noon movie showings" are only $6?  So worth it.  Since I have Monday off too, I might just go see Pacific Rim or World War Z too.

For my grandma's birthday lunch, my aunt made a reservation at Wilfrid's Restaurant at the Chateau Laurier.  It's a fancy place with decent food and high prices.

Alot of us got the Catch of the Day: Trout.

I got the Chateau Burger.  The burger was really good.  It had a beef patty, bacon, and pulled short rib on it.

My mom had her retirement party at Panda Garden.  I think there were 40 of us there, and we stayed at Panda for almost 4 hrs.  A few of my plates.
First plate was light because 40 people went up at the same time.  It was too packed to get alot of food.

3rd plate.  It looked similar to my 2nd plate.  I basically ate a ton of seafood and chicken wings.

After 9pm, alot of the people got a 2nd wind and went for more food/desserts.  Chicken wings and sushi for dessert.  The cream puffs were fresh and the sesame ball was really tasty.  I ate 7-8 sesame balls by the end of the night and a 3 cream puffs.

Ed, Steve, and I went to Ox Head for lunch today.  We all got the Ox Head Special Vermicelli.  It's really good and satisfying.

Afterwards, on a whim, Ed and I decided to go to Baskin Robbins for some quick melting ice cream.  Steve didn't go because he drove himself.  We got Gold Metal Ribbon flavour in a cone.  It's french vanilla ice cream folded into chocolate ice cream with ribbons of english toffee in the mix.  Best flavour ever, but they don't carry the version with gold flakes.

AKB48's Shinoda Mariko will graduate from the group this Sunday at the Fukuoka Dome Concert.  Last week they performed "Ue Kara Mariko"on Music Station (the janken song that she centers).  All of Mariko Team A appeared to perform it.

Lunch today -> Fried Chicken and Cream Puffs.
Dropped by Walmart to check on the toys and pick up lunch.  Got some fried chicken and a box of mini cream puffs.  The chicken was standard fried chicken.  The cream puffs were really good.  Still half-frozen it was like they were icecream filled.  Only $5 for a box for 32.

CMC Strike Fighters had a game vs Master Batters tonight.  I went to watch and bring cream puffs because I couldn't play with an infected finger (it's swollen and full of puss, but I didn't pop it).
Jeno was not hitting very well tonight.  I think he was 0-for-3 tonight.
