Replenishing Green Onion

I've been growing some green onion stalks for a couple of weeks now. They've gotten pretty long. The green stems keep replenishing as I cut some of them to garnish my food. It's too bad I prefer the white part more than the green part.

I got a Canadian Hot and Ready Pizza from Little Caesars. I think I've been getting 1 Canadian a week now. I think they changed owners and the pizza they're making is better than they used to make.

Meat Day

Tomorrow, Feb 29, is Leap Day... but it is also Meat Day.
In Japanese:
2 is "ni",
9 is "kyu"
Together "ni-kyu" sounds like "niku", which is "meat" in Japanese :) Be sure to eat meat on Wednesday.

Dinner today -> Cat Fish with Chinese Eggplant and Sweet Potato.
The catfish was marinated in Cajun sauce by Farmboy. Ben said it was good, but I find it so-so. I steamed the eggplant and finished it by charing it in the pan with a little BBQ sauce. It looks burnt but it wasn't. Blackening the BBQ sauce changes the flavour.

I went home for lunch today. It had been snowing earlier and there was only a centimeter or two of snow on the ground. My stupid neighbour at the end of the street decided to leave his car in the middle of the street, blocking any way to pass, and clear his drive way of the little bit of snow. I know he saw me waiting there for a few seconds and the idiot didn't even attempt to move his car. I had to loop around the other way to get home.

Linda made blueberry muffin cakes for Katelyn's birthday. She decorated them herself to look like Hello Kitty using fondant. They look good and tasted good too.

Salmon filets are on sale at Farmboy this week. I didn't realize that Farmboy leaves the skin on the salmon when they sell them. It's harder to de-skin the fish when the fish is already cut into sections vs when the fish is whole. I used the skin to make a crispy salmon skin roll.

Anthony bought a bunch of cheap boardgames for 25 cents each!
We played a 1978 game called "Doctor, Doctor!". I think it is a pretty good game. The game play is unique.
We also played "Pro Stadium Soccer". You manage a team and buy players to improve your team. It's mostly based on the luck of the roll, but it's not a bad game.

Went to Rideau for lunch with Kurt and the CMC boyz. I forgot to take pics of the dishes, but we ordered Szechuan Beef, General Tao Chicken, Salt and Pepper Squid, Lemon Chicken, and Beef with Snow Peas. Mark didn't show up so we were short his Sweet and Sour Pork dish.

I got some card supplies and picked up some 3-card-holder displays while I was there. I put my chase Itano and Yuko shirt cards and my chase Wasamin autograph in them with some common and rare cards. They look pretty good.

AKB48 was on "Music Japan" last week (re-airs on TV Japan (NHK) this Friday at 4:30). Sounded like they performed and played their instruments live.

My review:
- before chewing, the gum smells like a plastic toy car.
- initial few seconds of chewing, it has a very strong flavour and sweetness.
- tastes like a sweet apple pie, but it needs to be abit more tart.
- after a few chews it gets better and tastes pretty good.
- flavour doesn't last very long.
- after 5 mins, it tastes like I'm chewing on a plastic apple potpourri.
Verdict: Good at first, but goes straight to disgusting fast.

Pulled a Kurt

Lunch today -> Chinese Sausage Rolls and Fruit Cup.
I should have bought more of the sausage rolls from T&T. They are so good. I really need to learn how to make the dough, so I make them myself.
I "pulled a Kurt" when I opened my fruit cup. I spilled the syrup all over my desk and floor, but I didn't get it on my pants. They should really design how to opening these cups better.

Long Weekend Report: Poisoned

I cleaned out some of the cupboards in my kitchen on Saturday. I found some "Thinsation" cookies and a bag of microwave popcorn. They both had expired in 2008. I microwaved the popcorn and they still popped and tasted fine, so I ate the bag. BIG MISTAKE!!! I had a wicked stomach ache all Saturday night.

5 Day Weekend

I took vacation today and Friday. Since Monday is Family Day, I got a 5 day weekend :) I did some shopping this morning at some comic and toy stores, and upgraded some of my Magic decks in the afternoon. Seems like I wasted my 1st day.

$2.50 a sub. Can't beat that price. Direct from Montreal too.

This weekend is the Game Summit. It used to be CanGames. They also moved locations to the Nepean Sportsplex. I'm glad they moved there. Easier to get there and way easier to find parking.

I was watching a bunch of videos on Youku yesterday, and before each video started there was a short Chinese KFC commercial. It was an appetizing commercial. It brainwashed me to get some today.
BTW: Did you know that at KFC in China, you can get congee with KFC in it! (That's how our family serves it at home.) It comes with a side of fried bread stick too.

Weekend Report: Holey PJ Pants

In my favorite pair of pajama pants, I had worn in some small holes in each knee. On Saturday night, I was carrying some dishes from the basement up to the kitchen, and I caught my left leg pants hole on a bench corner and ripped a huge hole in it :( D'oh! But the worst part was when I was coming back down to the basement, I caught the right leg pants hole on the same bench corner and ripped it wide open too!! It was so stupid I LOL

I tried microwaving some bacon as the package said, and the bacon turned out too crispy and shrank about 1/2 it's size. It crunched like salty bacon chips. What a waste of some nice bacon.

1 Clean Sock

I think I have otitis externa. My right ear was aching last night and today. I kept scratching it and poking at it with a Q-Tip. Today I read that I shouldn't have done that... oops.

I should have ended the poll on Thursday. I thought I had enough socks til Friday, but I discovered that I only have 1 clean sock left. It was the odd sock out after throwing out socks with holes in them (All my socks are grey so I can easily mix and match). I guess I'll wear 1 dirty sock and 1 clean sock on Friday :)

Dinner today -> Spicy Garlic and Lime Shrimp with Avocado.
I saw this made on TV, but I was only half watching the show, so I missed how they actually made this dish. I think this is how they made it, but I'm probably missing a few spices.
I cooked it in a pan and re-filled the empty avocado shells with the food. It was good :)

Superbowl Specials

Lunch today -> Faux Sushi.
Sobey's had a SuperBowl special on Sushi, Wings, and Pizza until Thursday (FYI: Lobster is on sale too).

I picked up a maki sushi boat at lunch time. It was not very good. The rice was all smushed, almost like mocchi. And the carrot sushi was just bad. I should have gotten the pizza.

I also got some wings from Sobey's. I re-heated them in the oven. The Sweet Chili dipping sauce that came with them, was really good. The wings were good, but the M&M ones are still way better.

I saw the "Holy Crap" cereal. The bag is tiny! It's about the size of a small bag of chips. For $10 I think there might only be enough cereal in it for 1, maybe 2 bowls. Not worth it. Maybe if it goes on sale for $5 I might get a bag.
