Weekend Report: Staycation Over

Been on staycation since Tuesday.  I had lots to do planned in my mind, but I ended up playing a ton of Nintendo Switch (Zelda: Breath of the Wild) instead.  I did do abit of shopping, mostly for groceries, and hung out with Julie watching stuff (iZombie, Jackie Chan's Skiptrace, and some of Screem Queens Season 1).

Food during Staycation ->
I made a Walmart MTL spice steak.  This pack of meat was a better cut than the last pack I got.  It was more tender and both pieces were cut the same thickness.
Walmart Steak.

I picked up a pack of buffalo cheese and truffle stuffed ravioli from Stittsville Sobey's.  Both Kanata Sobey's don't carry this!  And Stittsville Sobey's seems to be better stocked with different items than the other ones.  I boiled the ravioli and layered it between some bolognese sauce.  It's really good.
Ravioli and Bolognese Sauce.

I also picked up a salmon filet at Sobey's.  I pan fried/steamed it.  I ate it with some leftover french fries from Glen's Fry Truck (at Canadian Tire.)
Fish and Chips.

Julie made me some homemade pasta sauce.  She made it with tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, and spinach.
Julie's Pasta Sauce.
I made some spaghetti and mixed in some of the sauce.  It was pretty good.

Useless Softball News:
We had our first practice last Wednesday.  Half the team was available and we had a pretty good practice.  Steve bought a new bat that is slightly end weighted.  I couldn't hit very well with it.  I think I will stick with the white bat.  I also did about a hundred squats while catching.  I was so sore on Thursday and slept in til noon.  BUT on Friday I was even more sore!  I had to used the railing to go down stairs.  I had a whole day of garden stuff planned, but couldn't do it.

Useless Food News:
Sittsville Sobey's has a freezer full of unique Chinese fondue meats.  It includes camel, crocodile, kangaroo, and ostrich.  I might get some of these if they go on sale.  They were $11.99 each!

Walmart Steak

Dinner today -> Walmart Steak
Went to Walmart tonight after going to Loblaws.  I was looking for some discount steak but there were none at Loblaws.  I did find at Walmart that they have 2-pack pre-marinated steaks for $7!  I bought 3 packs (searched all the packs and took the heaviest 3).  2 packs marinated in Montreal Steak spice and 1 in black pepper.  I cooked a Montreal Steak spice pack tonight.
It was OK for $7.  The meat isn't that tender and the steaks were of different thicknesses, so they cooked at different times.  It was also abit salty.  It would have been good with some rice, but I didn't make any.  I made green beans and chopped tomatoes as a side.

Useless News:
I'm vacation the rest of this week :)  Don't email me at work.

Weekend Report: Dragonzord

Food this weekend ->
Made stew on Friday.   I boiled and cooled again and again some soup bones and stewing meat for the past couple of days.  It got lots of flavour from the bones and tenderize the meat to be really soft.  I added some onions, potatoes and carrots, and finished it with a couple eggs to thicken the broth.
Stew.

Susanna and I went to Ogdensburg on Saturday.  We got lots of food and stuff.  My food highlights was the squeeze-able butter, pistachio bread, Korean BBQ chips, Tostitos heat-able dips, and microwaveable Monkey Bread.
Ogdensburg Stuff.
In toys, I found a Supergirl figure.  The box was abit dinged, but I passed it up before Christmas and I haven't seen another one til now, so I had to get it.  I also got the Green Ranger's Dragonzord.  It was on sale at Ogdensburg Walmart for $36US.  I think it was $75cdn here.

Useless Gaming News:
5-player gaming Saturday night.  We started with Inner Circle while waiting for Derek to arrive.
Classic Inner Circle.
Then we played Camel Up (or Camel Cup?), Sushi Go, and Eggs & Empires.

Trunk Full of Bunnies

Lunch today -> Pastries and Fries.
Went out for lunch today with some co-workers.  We went to the french bakery first for some pastries.  I got the new bacon & leak tart for Peter (btw: you owe me $7), chicken alfredo tart, and a dulche-something mousse dome.  We then went to Glens by Canadian Tire for fries.  I got a medium fries with salt & vinegar.
Fries, Dessert, and Savoury Tarts.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the chicken alfredo tart had too much chicken in it.  Didn't try the mousse dome yet.  Was too full from the tart and fries.

Snack today -> Chocolate Bunnies.
Social Committee (with me as a member) got everyone at CMC Kanata a chocolate bunny for a post-Easter treat.  Lori was able to get a deal from Loblaws for 112 medium size Lindt bunnies.  I delivered them to everyone's desk on a trolley full of chocolate.  Everyone was surprised and I got alot of questions asking where was my bunny suit or bunny ears.
What a Trunk Full of Chocolate Bunnies Looks Like.

Dinner today -> Pork, Pasta, and Salad.
Julie gave me a call and invited me over for dinner and to watch 3 new episodes of iZombie.  She cooked a pork loin stuffed with apples and figs (pre-made).  I help prepare a cabbage salad with blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, and Oka cheese.  The last thing was freshly made cheese & truffle ravioli with a vodka tomato sauce.  I forgot to take a pic, but while the pork and salad was good, the pasta was amazing.  Julie said she got them Sobey's in Stittsville, so I think I might have to go get some.  I didn't know they made fresh pasta there.

Wagyu & Lobster Burgers

Lunch today -> Smoked Salmon on Bagels.
Went home for lunch today.  Made toasted everything bagels topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon.  Yummy and filling.

Dinner today -> Steak
Went to Loblaws after after-work gaming tonight and picked up a 4-pack of steaks that were 50% off.  I pan fried 2 of the steak and saved the other 2 to make stew tomorrow or Friday.  Also added a side of green beans cooked in steak drippings and chopped tomatoes.

Useless Food News:
I found frozen Wagyu burgers by President's Choice at Loblaws.  I think these are new?
I then noticed the blue box beside the wagyu beef burgers.  It was Wagyu & Lobster burgers!  These were $14 for a box of 4 burgers.  I like lobster and I like beef., so I splurged and bought one box.  I'll have to try these later on the BBQ.

Nutella Bacon Elk Meat Burger

Lunch today -> The Works.
Have a visitor from Sugar Groove here this week for one of my projects.  We went out for lunch today at The Works.   I got the nutella bacon elk meat burger with sweet potato fries..  It was a very good burger.  The nutella was held in the burger by an onion ring.
Even though this burger was very good, I think it would be even better if the nutella was swapped with peanut butter :)
BTW: Did The Works change the size of their burgers?  Mine looked really small...

Shrimp Eating Mussel

Dinner today -> Breakfast
Went grocery shopping with Susanna at Loblaws tonight.  We got a bunch of 50% off meat, including some dried salami that doesn't expire til December!  I also picked up some eggs and bagels (2 bags for $5).  Made sunny side up eggs, toasted everything bagels, and some mini-turkey sausages for dinner.
Dinner.

Useless Aquarium News:
I was eating some New Zealand Green Mussels on the weekend and gave one of the big mussels to my shrimp to eat.  I think they will be feasting on the mussel all week.  One shrimp went to munch on it a few seconds after I put it into the tank.

Weekend Report -> Audit Done

Finished my audit last week.  It went way better than I expected.  The team had prepared for the worst and we did a practice audit to find any holes and to ask ourselves the hard questions.  Ethan did an amazing job chauffeuring the auditor's actions.  We only got 3 super minor actions in the end.

Food this last week ->
I got this half-pound peanut butter cup from Walmart.  It took me 3 days to eat it.  I ate abit each day after the day's audt.  I'm tempted to buy another one before they disappear from the Easter chocolates.
Half Pound Peanut Butter Cup.

I got a 4-item meal from T&T on Thursday and took it my parent's for dinner.  Got green beans, bean curd, fish, beef brisket, and fish maw soup.
T&T 4-Item Meal.

Potluck dinner at Jeff & Linda's on Friday.  Will only stayed to play some games before dinner (we played Camel Cup).  Mohit also showed up for some chatting before dinner too.  Haven't seen him in years.
Linda made fried udon noodles and veggies.  Ben made tteok-bokki.  I prepared Korean short ribs and BBQed them with Jeff's help.  The first batch of short ribs this year and they were so good!
Dinner at Jeff & Linda's.
Korean Short Ribs.
For dessert Linda made Skillet Smores.
Melted Chocolate and Marshmallow.
They were good and gooey.
Smore.
I made lemon cheese cake sprinkled with Kinder Egg shells.
Lemon Cheese Cake.
After dinner, we played Roll For It and Sushi Go Party.  Sushi Go was lots of fun and we played 4 games of it.
Sushi Go Party.

This is the gift I got for Linda's Birthday.  I got it from the craft show.  It's a hand made glass turtle.  In the shell was a jelly fish!  It looks really cool.

Weekend Report -> Will!!!!

Food this weekend ->
Spend all Friday to Sunday working, playing, and eating.
Went out for lunch with Ed and Steve because it was their birthday.  We went to Ox Head 2.  We sat down and we immediately got the vermicelli.  It's the best item on the menu.  I saw my cousin Henry getting seated as we were on the way out.

Julie and I had free tickets to the Spring Craft Show on Saturday.  We went there to check it out.  Julie bought 5 hand made hats!  The were really nice looking and some were fashioned like in the 20's.  I only bought a birthday present for Linda.  I hope she likes it.  I won't show it yet.  I'll show it after I give it to her.
I couldn't spend much time hanging out with Julie as I had to go back to work.  I got Burger King for dinner: 2 Whopper meals for $10.  I only got 1 drink.  I should have gotten the 2nd drink, as I was thirstier than I thought.  The fries didn't seem very full either.  If I was only eating 1 meal, I would be complaining, but since I ate both there was just enough fries.
2 Whopper Meals for $10.

Will's family is back in Ottawa visiting this week.  On Sunday we met up with Ben and Jeff's family at Fun Haven.  The kids were let loose on the jungle gym while we played some bowling and ticket games.  I won a bucket of cotton candy in the UFO claw game.  I should have won it on 2 tries, but the claw was weak and I got it on the 3rd try.  Not sure why I got the cotton candy.  Maybe because it looked easy to get, but if I think about it: $3 for cotton candy VS I own a cotton candy machine and it costs me pennies to make.  In the end I gave it away to Katelyn and Everett.
Cotton Candy Prize.

We all went to Rideau Restaurant for a dinner feast.  Started with crab meat fish maw soup.  This is the good stuff.
Crab Fish Maw Soup.
It was followed by fish, chicken, tofu balls, and beef with chinese greens.
Steamed Fish.
Chicken.
Tofu Balls and Beef & Chinese Greens.
We got more greens but these had garlic in it.  These greens have a hollow stem.  Very good dish.
Different Greens with Garlic.
Also came was orange pork strips and salt & pepper squid.  Squid was very tender and perfectly cooked.  Not rubbery at all.

Salt & Pepper Squid.
Dessert was a very sweet red bean soup.
Very Sweet Red Bean Soup.
Thanks Jeff for getting most of the meal.  I'll get it next time.

Useless Blog News:
Might not be any posts this coming week.  Super busy with an audit at work.  If there is something interesting, I'll post it.

Sabine

Snack today -> Mini Cinnamon Rolls.
Picked up a box of mini cinnamon rolls at Costco last night (I shouldn't shop when I'm hungry) and brought it in to work for snack time.  They are good normally, but they are even better when heated up :)  Go try it!
Mini Cinnamon Rolls.

Dinner today -> Roast Beef.
I also bought a roast beef from Loblaws yesterday.  It was $41 but on sale for 50% off!  $20 for a big with bone roast.  I marinated it last night at my parent's house before going home, and left directions for my dad to cook it to a medium rare.  It came out really well.  We also had rice, green beans, and potatoes with the meat.  Ben brought tofu with garlic chives.
Dinner with Family.

Useless Toy News:
Finally found a Sabine Star Wars Rebels figure.  I saw it once before Christmas, but when I decided to go back the next day to buy it, it was gone.  Now I need to find an Ezra figure.
Sabine Wren.
The Sabine figure seems to be from Season 1.  It doesn't have the look of the new armour with the "5" on the shoulder pad, and she didn't come with her black light sabre.

Power Rangers Movie

Useless Movie News:
Went to see the new Power Rangers movie on cheap Tuesday night with Julie, Gen, and Roger.  Before going in to the theatre, I was chill'in with the Guardians of the Galaxy :).  (Julie, you cut off Rocket in the pic!)
Fongpay with Guardians.
The Power Rangers Movie was way better than I expected.  The movie gave each Ranger a back story, including Zordon and Rita.  It was fun to watch and there were some good laughs.  I did find the last act abit rushed.  I'm hoping there will be a directors cut DVD that fixes this.
Movie Ticket.
There were also a couple cameos, mentions of Marvel heroes and Transformers, and an after short credits scene (but nothing after the long credits).  Totally sets up for number 2 (I hear there will be 6 movies?).
BTW: Billy was wearing a couple good t-shirts that I want.

Thai Curry Chips

Useless Food News:
Susanna gave me this bag of PC chips a little while ago.  It's World of Flavours: Thai Curry.
Gross.
She says it was good, so I gave it a try.  It was disgusting!  All I taste was the over powering coriander.  There was only a hint of thai curry flavour.

Happy Birthday Linda!!!

Weekend Report -> The Fry

Food this weekend ->
Friday's snack at work were these amazing 1 bite mini-chocolate cupcakes from Farmboy.  They were a tiny bite of awesome.  Really well decorated with shaved white chocolate on the milk chocolate icing.
Mini Chocolate Cupcakes.

I bought this pack of hot cheese ramen from T&T last week.
Spicy Korean Cheese Ramen.
It's the same super hot ramen from Korea that I ate before but the cheese version.  This was the one that was so hot I could only eat half before I ran for milk.
So Spicy Hot!
It looked really good after making it and the sauce thickened nicely with the cheese powder.  BUT this time I only ate 2 bites before running for milk!  This ramen is really tasty but so hot!  BTW: the milk was starting to turn too...

I tried The Fry in Barrhaven out.  I ordered the Special Half & Half with Sauce and Soy Garlic Sauce.  I also ordered Spicy Ricecakes with Seafood.  While waiting for the food, the store was playing a music video marathon (on the karaoke machine) of GFriend (Korean girl idol group).  BTW: the girls behind the counter could have easily been idols themselves.
This is the cool takeout box I got for the chicken and the ricecakes.  The carry string is a nice touch as is the drink holder.
Takeout Boxes.
When I opened the boxes, it was just wow...
Chicken and Ricecakes.
The Sauce Chicken was in the bottom, and the Soy Garlic chicken is on the top (I think?).  Included was also a small box if pickled diakon.  The seafood ricecakes was full of seafood.  I was totally impressed.  The chicken on the bottom was crispy and had big chunks of garlic in it, but I didn't find any garlic in the top chicken, which is what confused me as which chicken was which.  Anyways the food was amazing.  Definitely going back.  Maybe eat there to enjoy the Kpop too.
BTW: Save the coupon in the box steam vent for free chicken.

Useless Toy News:
Picked up the new Cyclops figure from Toys R Us.  I prefer this classic look from X-Men Blue Team.  Might want to get Colossus too but he wasn't there and I need to see how he looks first.
Cyclops.
