Weekend Report

Friday:
Downloaded and watched episode 8 of Majisuka Gakuen. Majisuka Ep8 is nuts!!! It introduces Gekikara. She's psycho. Uber-violence and blood everywhere! Crazy awesome episode :)
Torrent here. No subs yet.

^ Less bloody screen cap of Matsui Rena as Gekikara.
(Nasty part: Gekikara shoves a pencil up Wota's nose. The camera cuts away, but your hear her screaming in the background...)

Saturday:
Went with my family to Panda Garden Buffet in Kanata for lunch.
The decor of the restaurant is really nice. The walls look high-class, but the tables didn't match and looked cheap.
The food was so-so. It has mostly Gwai-lo Chinese Food (aka Canadian Chinese Food). Don't expect anything spectacular if you go.

^ Plates 3-5 (forgot to take pics of plates 1, 2, and only remembered half-way through plate 3)

The best item they got is the shrimp rolled in deep fried wonton skin (see plate 4, top right).
While eating my meal, I was thinking the whole time that almost everything they have to offer in the buffet, I could probably make myself; and make it taste better too. Then I thought, "I could be the head chef here!" :)
The worst item was the Singapore Rice Noodles. It's normally yellow and little bit spicy with bits of meat, shrimps, and bean sprouts in it, but here it was red and tastes like they only added ketchup and bean sprouts. Totally disgusting.
The funny item was the black-bean short ribs. It's funny because Susanna shot the ribs into her face when she was eating it. LOL :p

Sunday:
Watched the Olympic gold medal game between Canada and the US. I got some snacks earlier to munch on.

^ Timbits, DimSum, Bean Curds.

It was an incredible game.
The NBC play-by-play feed was funny. Early in the 3rd period, right after Canada hit the post, one of the commentators said that Canada had a "virtual 2 goal lead". Then the other commentator shot him down, saying "virtual leads don't count in hockey". LOL

Canada won 3-2 in Overtime.

Snow and Traffic, and Maybe Sick?

I had to leave work early today, so I can drive Ben to the Train Station. With the snow falling, and it was middle of rush hour, it took us about 50 minutes to get across the city. It was bumper to bumper traffic.
On the way back to CMC, and since I was in the somewhat-nearby neighbourhood, I dropped by T&T. I got there at about 5:45pm. 1st thing I went to get was some Portuguese Egg Tarts. UNBELIEVABLY there they were all sold out! I couldn't believe it! (Sorry Sandra. If I go on Sunday, I may be able to get you some.)

I couldn't leave T&T empty handed, so I got some din-din: Fried Noodles, Otoro Sushi, and Veggie Egg Rolls.

^ Fried Noodles, Otoro Sushi, and Veggie Egg Rolls.

I still got the aches in my legs and back most of today. I don't know if I'm sick or not. Steve thinks I am in the beginning phases of getting sick. Damn, and right before a weekend too.
But you know the old saying, "Feed a cold, Starve a fever, and Stuff yourself silly for everything else!" (BTW: I added the last part ^_^). So I stuffed myself with the above food, along with the leftover Female-Capelin, Squid Tentacles, and BBQ Pork from Wednesday :) yum.

FYI1:
Unconfirmed, but the Arby's in Kanata opened on Tuesday. Can someone confirm this?

FYI2:
Confirmed, Panda Garden Chinese Buffet in Kanata is now open. Anyone gone yet? I'll be trying it out on the weekend.

I think I'm getting sick...

I felt fine at work today, but when I got home I went straight to bed. For some reason my hands and feet were freezing cold and I couldn't get them warm for the longest time. My arms, legs, and back are aching abit too. I think I'm getting sick, but I don't have any sniffles or cough? Weird @_@
Still... even though I felt sick, I had to wake up at 7:30pm to watch the Canada vs Russia hockey game (and to post this blog entry).
I think I may have caught something when I went to Comic Book Shoppe at lunchtime today, or maybe at T&T last night, or maybe from Eric at work... he was sick on Monday?

T&T Score

Went to T&T tonight to pick some food for dinner. I scored some good stuff: Fried Capelin filled with Roe, BBQ Pork, Fried Squid Tenticles, Spicy Salmon Roll Sushi (not that good), and Dim Sum Stuff. Everything was reduced by $0.50-$1.00, and it was only 7:30pm.

^ T&T Score.

I also picked up some fresh BBQ Pork Buns and Hotdog Buns for lunch. But alas... all the Portuguese Egg Tarts were sold out :(

Useless News From Japan:
Found an interesting pic today from one of my Japanese news sites...

Useless Idol Info:
1st B-side song from AKB48's "Sakura no Shiori" Single: "Majisuka Rock'n Roll". It's the theme song to AKB48's TV drama Majisuka Gakuen. A fun rock song about yankees (a type of delinquent youth).

Dinner today -> Rice Noodles

Dinner today was Rice Noodles with beef, bean sprouts, mushrooms, and lettuce. It's a recipe off a Japanese TV show, but I modified it. I added beef slices and lettuce to replace the Kimchi (not a fan of kimchi).

^ Rice Noodles with stuff.

The 1st bowl was pretty good, but the 2nd bowl was not as good. Almost everything was soggy and I can't stand soggy noodles. Next time I think I'll add Fish Tofu cubes.

The show where I copied the recipe is called "Omoikkiri PON", and AKB48's Takahashi Minami co-hosts the cooking part of the show.

^100202 Omoikkiri PON. (NOTE: 10 mins)
Gavin/ Ben, do you recognize the weird clock above them? It's the clock we pass by on the JR when we leave the hotel in Odaiba to Shinbashi Station. Ben and I got off here to take pictures of it one time and to walk to Tokyo Tower.

^ Weird Clock. Plays music and does a little show at certain times.

Weekend report

Friday:
Went to T&T around 8pm. I was hoping for some Otoro Sushi or some Fried Noodles, but it was all sold out. No Portuguese Egg Tarts either :( I had to settle for some Chinese Sausage Rice and some Marinated Squid.

I picked up Voyager class TF Bludgeon at Walmart. This is a well made transformer. Transforms from Tank to Decepticon Samurai.

^ Bludgeon

Saturday:
Woke up early to watch a couple hours of Saturday morning cartoons (G1 Transfomers 7am on Teletoon Retro), then went back to sleep til 2pm. Woke up and made food.

^ Beans, Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumplings, and Jamacain Patty.

Watched the "Eco Food Challenge Special" on TV Japan (NHK). It's a show where 2 teams of Japanese celebrities compete in one-on-one cooking battles for a trophy. Its interesting to watch and I recognize most of the celebrities. The dessert cook from "Bambino!", Hossan, finished 2nd and cooked some neat stuff. I'm going to steal some of his ideas.

Sunday:
Vegged out at home and worked on some little projects. Went to Walmart found some "Zhu Zhu Pets" for sale. Supposedly this was the most wanted toy from this Christmas. I picked one up. It's basically a robot hamster that you can interact with.

Lunch today was more Pork and Shrimp Dumplings. The new trick I learn is to place a layer of lettuce on the tray before steaming. This will prevent the dumplings from sticking to the steamer tray.

^ Shrimp and Pork Dumplings

Dinner was some Transformers Animated Eggo's.

^ Transformers Animated Eggo's.

Mock Chicken - The King of Processed Meat

Dinner today was Mock Chicken on Toast. In my opinion, it's the King of Processed Meat. The weird thing is... I don't think it tastes like chicken at all!

^ Mock Chicken on Toast.

Mock Chicken, according to this site, consists of finely ground meats including Pork, Beef, and Chicken. Doesn't say which parts the meat comes from, but you can't think of that while eating it. All that matters is that it tastes great. (ie: like eating BBQ Chicken Feet. Don't think about it, just eat it *cough*Steve*cough*.)

Useless Idol News:
Perfume (techno-pop idol group) was on "American Dad" last Sunday. Article and clip here. They sing the Japanese song Cyborg-Stan plays in the car.

Majisuka Gakuen Ep6 with English subs are available for download here, along with previous episodes, AKBingo! episodes, and Shukan AKB episodes.

Smelly Sock

Watched this week's episode of AKBingo! It was another episode of Punishment Dodgeball. This episode was so funny!
Watch it while you can, before it's taken down.
Veoh Link.
Torrent here.

*Partial Spoiler*
.
..
...
Best part is when they made Myao sniff a smelly sock as punishment. Then for some reason, out of nowhere, they made Kasai smell the sock too.

^ You can see in her eyes that she was pissed. LOL

^ Kasai sniffing the smelly sock.

Maybe someone who understands Japanese (*cough*Emi*cough*Gavin*cough*), can watch the show and explain to me why Kasai had to smell the sock too? (Sock part at time 13:30 of Veoh Link)

Sakura no Shiori

Dinner today was more Beef with Chinese Greens on Rice. For some reason I'm wanting to eat this every week.
I chopped 5 large cloves of garlic this time. It may have been a bit too much garlic, but it was still totally tasty :)

^ Beef with Chinese Greens on Rice.

Useless Idol News:
Even though I'm not a huge fan of AKB48's new song, "Sakura no Shiori", the ballad is growing on me. (Again, I think it might be those angel winged kimonos.)

^ Sakura no Shiori Promotional Video. (Song starts at about 01:50. Note: They dance River near the end.)

Total 1st day sales = 229,528. That's pretty unbelievable (Note: 2 of those sales are from me ^_^ ), while highest total from the competition was only 10,138. What makes it even more unbelievable is that the Final Total sales for RIVER was 230,668. They almost beat River's sales on the 1st day.
This song should be #1 on the Oricon charts this week, and the girls have been invited to be on Music Station too.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Dinner today was a peanut-butter, mock chicken, lettuce, and cheese sandwich. Peanut-butter and mock chicken is a great combo :)

^ Sandwich.

Nothing much going on today. Mostly watched Team Canada beat Norway in Olympic Hockey: 8-0. I fell asleep during the 2nd intermission and missed most of the 3rd period.

Useless Idol News:
AKB48 released their 15th Single today, "Sakura no Shiori". The CD comes with a DVD with PVs for Sakura no Shiori, Majisuka Rock'n Roll, Enkyori Poster, and Choose Me! Maybe I'll post these PVs later.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone. This year is the Year of the Tiger. Went home for a New Year's prayers and dinner, that my mom made.

^ New Year's Prayer Food and Setup.

^New Year's Dinner.

I'm watching alot of TVB's Gourmet Secret Agent Season 5. The show is FREE on Multicultural On Demand (Rogers channel 800). It's about a fat guy (Liang Wen Tao) and 2 cute & perky girls (Meini Cheung and Grace Wong) traveling around Asia and eating awesome gourmet dishes. They also show how the dishes are prepared and cooked too.

^ Gourmet Secret Agent Season 5.

I will have to steal some of those chef's ideas and techniques for my food. It doesn't matter if you do or don't understand Cantonesse, this is a series that must be watched (Free On Demand until April or click link above for limited viewing). If this was still available on YesAsia (my usual order site), I would have ordered all 5 seasons.
NOTE: Season5 Episode 2: shows how to make my new favorite dessert, Portugeese Egg Tarts! I'm no good at making desserts, so maybe someone would watch and learn how to make it for me *cough*Linda*cough* ;)
WARNING: Watching this show may cause stomach growls, drooling, and extreme urges to order Chinese food.

Olympics have started. Can't help by watch some of it, as it's on almost every TV channel. I'm waiting for moguls and mens hockey to start.
UPDATE:
Damn! I missed the Mens Freestyle Moguls finals, because I was watching Homer and Marge win Gold in Curling at the Vancouver Olympics, on a new episode of The Simpsons!

#6 Maeda Atsuko (AKB48)
#5 Tanaka Reina (Morning Musume)
#4 Takahashi Ai (Morning Musume)
#3 YUI
#2 Kashiwagi Yuki (AKB48)

4 out of 8 Morning Musume members make the top 20, while 3 AKB48 members make it. I'm surprised that Yukirin (#2) beat out Acchan (#5) and Ai-chan (#4)!

Dinner today -> Beef and Chinese Greens

Dinner was Beef and Chinese Greens/Zuchini. I was debating weither or not to go to T&T tonight and buy some chow mein noodles, to use as the base for the beef. I didn't go and just made some rice to go with it instead.

^ Beef and Chinese Greens/Zuchini.

^ Beef and Chinese Greesn/Zuchini on Rice.

NOTE: Really NOW, the videos work... I hope. They seem to work after 10pm? I don't know why.
Again, the Transformers game trailer is a must watch, while Morning Musume's new single is an optional watch.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Dinner today -> Hockey Sushi

NOTE: Anyone unable to watch the posted videos from the past 2 days, can now do so. I don't know why, but they should be working now. The Transformers game trailer is a must watch, while Morning Musume's new single is an optional watch.

Dinner today was sushi from Hockey Sushi. Went to dinner with Ben, Anita, myself, and Optimus Prime.

^ New Hockey Sushi Chef Specials.
Salmon Rose is available, but it doesn't taste as good as the Salmon Rose from Sakura Sushi.

^ Sushi and Optimus.

Went to Jeff/Linda's house afterwards and played some "Apples to Apples" and "Bonanza". Anita won both games. I blame Ben for my loss in Bonanza.
We also watched MTL beat WAS 6-5 in OT, and break the Capitals winning streak.

Morning Musume 42nd Single

Morning Musume's 42nd single: "Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai" released today.

^ Morning Musume : Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai.
(Ripped from Dohhh UP!)

In my opinion, this single is not that good. The video is not anything special either.
Best part of the song: Takahashi Ai.

^ Ai-chan.

Transformers: War for Cybertron

Dinner today was "Shark Fin Oden". I used a pre-packed frozen Oden package and mixed it with the Shark Fin & Jelly Fish I got from T&T on the weekend.

^ Frozen Oden + Shark Fin & Jelly Fish =

^ Shark Fin Oden.

Everyone should watch this game trailer video for "Transformers: War for Cybertron" below. It is a MUST watch for any Transformers fan. It's awesome! The setting is Pre-G1. Release date: June 22, 2010.

^ "Transformers: War for Cybertron" Trailer.

Who to watch for:
Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Trailbreaker, Omega Supreme, maybe Ironhide? (being fixed by Ratchet?).

Weekend Report

Friday:
On vacation from work today. Was planning to get up really early to watch "Shukan AKB" live with Keyhole TV on my computer, but I decided to sleep in and just download the episode instead.
I did get up in time to get my free Breakfast Burger. I got the Croissan'wich with egg, cheese, and sausage.

^ Free Croissan'wich.

Went to Comic Book Shoppe to pick up some boxes of Magic cards. The new set: World Wake, was release today. After opening all the packs, I'm only missing 4 mythic rares.

^ M:tG World Wake cards.

Since I was nearby, I also hit up T&T for some cooked food. Got some Veggie Egg Rolls, Fried Noodles, Pork Bellies, Duck Liver, Sharkfin with Jellyfish, Portuguese Egg Tarts, and some Egg Bread.

^ Fried noodles with Pork Belly.

Saturday:
Went to T&T again with Ben and Susanna in the morning. Got more cooked food, but I also got some Live Jumbo Shrimps! Well, they were alive when I bought them, but by the time I got home, they were all dead.

^ Fresh Jumbo Shrimps.

I was going to try them out raw, like in my earlier post, but I didn't want to deny Steve the joyful opportunity of eating live (and moving) shrimp with me. (I'll bring a cooler and a ziplock bag of water with me next time.)
So I fried up the prawns in butter. They were sooooo good. It was like eating mini lobsters!

^ Butter Fried Jumbo Prawns.

Sunday:
Watched the Sens Skills Competition on Rogers 22. Apparently it was a sellout crowd for this event. Kovalev had some nifty moves in the shootout.

Only watched bits of the Super Bowl. Don't care for football. Watched a 2hr Smallville special instead. It introduced some of the Justice Society of America (JSA) characters to the show.

VAN @ OTT

Went to the VAN @ OTT game with Gordon Thursday night. We had CMC box seats :)

^ TSN/CBC HD TV Cameras beside CMC Box.

It was a good game. All Ottawa control in the 1st period, but it was all Vancouver in the 2nd and 3rd periods. OTT won 3-1 in the end. Alfredsson got 3 assists (I have him in 2 pools).
On a side note, MTL beat BOS 3-2 in a shootout. YES!

^ Canucks Warm-up.

^ Giant flag passed around during O'Canada.

FYI:
Free Breakfast Burger (or Breakfast Sandwich... happy Andrew?) at Burger King this Friday Feb 5, 2010.

Punishment-Dodgeball

Just watched today's AKBingo! This episode was awesome. The main segment had some of the AKB48 girls play Punishment-Dodgeball. It was hilarious.
The punishments for getting hit were:
1) Drinking a cup of milk while arms are electrocuted.
2) Eat a bug. It looked like a moth pupa. (Poor Aki, but she cutely freaked out.)
3) Pop a giant balloon on their head. (For some reason girls in Japan think this is scary?)
4) Have black wax (I think?) painted on their teeth.
5) Eat a watermelon slice as fast as you can, including the seeds.
6) Get face drawn on, to look like a man. (lol, the uni-brow!)
7) Face manipulation with scotch-tape.
8) More face drawing to look like a man. (LOL)

Cows on a Field

Made my own version of "Ants on a Log", called "Cows on a Field" (aka Beef and Onions quick stir-fried in MTL Steak Spice and Ketchup on Romane Lettuce). I'd say that my version is much tastier than the raisins and celery. (Eww, celery! Barf!)
