Useless Movie News:
Another Monday, another vacation day :).  Went to a matinee showing of Deadpool with Julie today.  The movie is really good.  It was funny right off the start.  Lots of action too.  Colossus was well portrayed in the movie.  I hope they use Colossus more in future movies.

Weekend Report -> Baby Guppies

I was about to clean my fish tank this weekend, when I noticed some tiny little balls moving along the bottom of the tank.  They were baby guppies!  They were about the size of a large sesame seed.  I think there are about 8-10 of them.  BUT.. the weird thing is, I only bought male guppies.  So these babies were totally unexpected.  Plus I thought the eggs on the tank glass were snail eggs.  I'm infested with alot of snails too.

Made flank steak for lunch on Saturday.  Added a side of french green beans, red peppers, and grape tomatoes.

Made another flank steak on Sunday for lunch.  Sides this time was "California Mix" veggies and grape tomatoes cooked in abit of butter and olive oil.

Tried out the "Bacon Mac & Cheese" Lays Chips.  They are alright.  I thought it would have been more "bacony", but I was glad it wasn't.  I saw the "Wasabi & Pickled Ginger" flavour too, but I don't like ginger, so I didn't buy it.

Snack today -> Pop Chips.
Tried the sea salt flavoured Pop Chips for a snack this morning.  I didn't like it.  It had a slight sour taste.  The hot ones from last time weren't that good either, so I'm probably never going to buy these Pop Chips again.

Lunch today -> Sardine Pate.
Ed gave me a tin of sardine pate from his recent trip to Amsterdam.  I got a crunchy french baguette and spread the pate on it.  It's pretty good.  Very smooth with a good fishy taste.

Snack #2 today -> Nutella Mini-Donuts.
Picked up some mini-donuts filled with Nutella at Sobey's.  I think these are new to the store.  They were good, but I think the need more Nutella filling in them.  BTW: the sugar powder was a trap.  I took 1 bite and the powder loosened and landed all over my red sweater.

Made spaghetti with meat sauce for dinner today.  Very filling and satisfying.  BTW: Today's Tortilla day was cancelled due to the snow storm.  A bunch of people left before lunch to work from home.

Useless Gaming News:
Another 4-player round of Gloom at lunchtime today.  I started using the tactic of playing good negative cards with the "discard your hand" drawback on my opponents characters.  They basically lose a turn to only draw cards on their turn.
Actually got a package in the mail today.  The snow storm didn't stop my mailman :)  I got my KickStarted Mega Man board game.

Reminder: Wednesday Feb 24 is Tortilla Chip Day.  Eventhough there is a snow storm, we will be celebrating this at work with LoneStar tortillas and salsa :)

We played 4-player Gloom today at lunchtime.  Pretty good short game.  We still need to learn some tactics.  I won today :)

Got my KickStarter Dungeon Scroll game in the mail today.  I've been waiting for this game for awhile.  I really want to play it.  It's a mix of scrabble and a dungeon crawl where the monsters have word conditions to defeat them.  My vocabulary isn't that great, but I still think this game will be fun.

Vacation Shopping

Took a vacation day today.  Got up at 11am ^_^ and went shopping.  I drove to Tanger Outlet Mall first.  I hit the Lindt store to get a free sample and some chocolate bars.  Walked around the rest of the place, but didn't buy anything.  I did stop by the fire pit to connect to the free-wifi and tended my crops in Family Farm Seaside.

I went to Toys R Us next.  Saw the new Transformers Combiner Wars Superion set.  It has the ugly G2 colours.  Didn't buy it and probably not going to get it unless it goes on clearance for alot.  It does come with a G2 Slingshot instead of Alpha Bravo.

Also saw the "Year of the Monkey" Optimus Primal.  I wonder if Ben will buy it (He was born in a Monkey year)?  But it's way overpriced at $200!

Went to Walmart after TRU.  Picked up some groceries, but I also found some Star Wars: Force Awaken figures; including a couple rare Rey figures.

Got a late lunch after shopping today at 2:30pm.  I went to Big Bone BBQ and got the Monday Mania special.  So much food for only $25 :)  Enough for lunch, dinner, and lunch tomorrow.

Weekend Report: Pork Tenderloin

Food this weekend ->
Got a bag of the Lays Chips Canada winner: PEI Scalloped Potatoes.  It's ok.  Kind of tastes like cheddar cheese flavoured chip.  I was told this year's new flavours are out at Superstore, but I haven't had a chance to go there yet.

Made pork tenderloin in BBQ sauce in my stone cooker on Sunday.  Microwaved it in 10 minutes.  Slice some of it and placed it over bak choi and french green beans.  The pork was very moist, but could have used abit more fat.

Got my KickStarted B-Seiged game on Friday.  I got the base game and 1 of everything.  It's a castle defense game using heroes and alot of minitures.

Breakfast today -> Chocolate.
A chocolate breakfast today.  I had a Boston Creme donut and a sesame chocolate bar.  I had another cherry filled donut later too :)

Dinner today -> Ramen.
I skipped lunch today so I made a big portion of ramen for dinner.  I added bak choi, fish cake slices, quail eggs, sliced roast pork, 1 roughly shredded soy sauce chicken leg, and red pepper paste.  Over cooked the ramen abit, but it soaked up the red pepper paste broth nicely.

Useless Snack News:
Picked up a couple packs of a new "yellow" MegaLoad chocolate bar at Toys R Us.  Inside are 3 caramel cups topped with different sweets.  The "blue" MegaLoad I got before were peanutbutter cups.  Didn't see those anywhere at the Kanata Toys R Us.

Useless Gaming News:
Gaming lunch today and we played 4-player "The Game".  We had time to play to 2 rounds and we won both times.  Game 1 had a dramatic 41 difference spread jump during mid-game, but in Game 2 I finished with an 82 difference spread jump.  New record!

Finally got around to using my free "Big Mac Value Meal" ticket today.  Swapped the drink for a coffee.  I needed it.  I was up til 2am playing Family Farm Seaside and set my alarm to get up at 4:45am to do more stuff when my crops were ready to be harvested.  I didn't go back to sleep til 6am.

Useless Aquarium News:
I think my Japanese ghost shrimps are finally trained.  When I feed the fish fish-flakes, the shrimps come scurrying out to eat the flakes that land on the bottom of the tank.  Today I saw 4 of the 5 shrimps I bought.  I don't know if #5 is still alive or just hiding somewhere?  For the longest time I only saw 2 an any given time.

I picked up the remaining LEGO Dimensions Level and Team packs today, except for the Homer Simpson Level Pack.  They are on sale at the Microsoft Store, but I was having problems logging in to checking out.  So I went to Toys R Us and price matched everything :)

So Much Snow

50cm of snow fell today.  Took me an hour to get home, when it's normally 5-10 minutes, and that's with me leaving early too.  There was traffic on March Rd because an OC Transpo Bus got stuck and was blocking the road.  Good thing a cop was nearby to direct traffic.
When I got home, this huge pile of snow was at the end of the drive way.  Took me another 15 mins to clear enough space to get the car in the garage.  I'm so glad I have snowplow service.  It's totally worth it :)

Long Weekend Report -> Family Day

Monday was "Family Day".  A holiday where the government is open, and everything else is closed.  Just stayed home and played Family Farm Seaside on my phone.  If Walmart or Sobeys was open, I would have gone and gotten some groceries.
BTW: Huge snow storm on Tuesday.  30cm of snow!

Food this weekend ->
Made homemade "Supreme" congee to take to Jeff & Linda's place for dinner on Sunday.  These are the ingredients I used: chicken broth, abalone, dehydrated chives, dashi, preserved duck eggs, shitake mushrooms, and ground pork (not shown).

I freezed the rice over night in water so it broke down faster when boiled to make the congee base.  It was really good and flavourful.  Every spoonful was full of stuff.

Dinner at Jeff & Linda's was good.  Ben made baked cod in soy sauce.  Linda made a really good red curry with chicken.  It had a good spice to it.  She also made a good daikon radish cake.  I liked it alot.  I got the leftovers too :)

Before and after dinner we did abit of gaming.  We played Star Trek: Five Year Mission.  After dinner we played Machi Koro, Tsuru, The Game, and Dixit.

Don't Shop When Hungry

Dinner today -> Discount T&T Food.
Susanna and I made a mistake and went to T&T tonight while hungry.  We bought a pile of discount food to eat for a late dinner.  We got fried rice, chicken, garlic chives, sweet & sour pork, fried squid tentacles, 2x chicken karaage, 2x Korean potato noodles, and Portuguese tarts.

Useless Gaming News:
Wednesday night, the CMC gaming group played Pandemic.  Because we played by the rules of not playing with an open hand, and by allowing each player to do what he wants; it did NOT end up being a 1 player game.  It was much more enjoyable experience.
Today, for gaming lunch, we played Meteor.  The 5 minute game of saving the Earth.  We played a couple beginner rounds with revealed meteors and free talking.  We won those fairly easily.  Then we got serious and played a real game (hidden meteors and no talking) and we lost 4 of 5 games.  Fun and difficult game.

Snack today -> Korean Fried Sea Tangle.
I got this new snack from T&T: Korean Fried Sea Tangle.  Basically deep-fried seaweed covered with salt and sugar.  On the initial bite, you get a crunchy sweet and salty taste.  Then after chewing, you get a slightly bitter aftertaste.  This must be a "beer food".  I tried to give it away at work and only Marcellus took it.  Everyone else didn't like it.

Cheeseburger Ruffles

Snack today -> Flame Grilled Cheeseburger Ruffles.
Got this bag of chips a couple weeks ago at Sobey's and only opened them today.  They are good.  They taste just like a Harvey's cheeseburger.  It's got a slight pickle/mustard/burger after taste.  I need to pick up some more before they are gone.

New Aquarium Fish!

Snack today -> Chocolate Covered Marshmallows.
Becky got me this treat from Sobey's for Chinese New Year.  It was very good.  The milk chocolate was just enough sweetness to go with the fluffy marshmallows.

Dinner today -> Croissants with Jam.
Julie shared with me a new way to eat croissants on the weekend.  Today I wanted more.  It's just croissants with abit of tart jam.  We used E.D Smith's Apricot, Peach, and Passion Fruit Jam.  Just spoon abit of jam onto each bit.  It's really good.  The sweet and tart jam enhances the savouriness of the croissant.  Everyone should try this.  It feels like a very high class way of eating too :)

I got 6 glass catfish, 5 Red Wag Platies, and 5 Tequila Sunrise Delta Guppies.  I definitely want some more of the guppies.  They actually swim around in a school and play with each other.  One of them even swam backwards taunting the others towards it.

I also got 5 small Japanese Ghost Shrimp.  I'm having the hardest time trying to find them as they blend in and hide very well with my decorations.  I've only seen 3 at one time, so I don't know if the other 2 are alive or dead (or eaten?).  They are about 1cm long.  I think I want more of these little guys.

I'm not sure why, but 3 glass catfish have died already!  It was good that I got them 2 for 1, but now its just regular price.  I think another one is starting to go too.  He's lying on the gravel not moving alot.

This year is the "Year of the Monkey".  It's Ben's year.
Chinese New Year's Eve was on Sunday.  I went to my parent's house to do prayers.

And to have New Year's Dinner afterwards.  It was good stuff.  tofu soup, shitake mushrooms with abalone, pork bean curd rolls, beef tongue, roast pork, chicken, potato noodles, pork hock, brocolli with fish balls, and tempura shrimp.
