Baton Rouge on Hunt Club

Dinner today -> Rib Steak.
Meet up with Julie after work.  She was free to go Halloween mirror and Soundwave hunting with me on Merivale.  We didn't find either item I was looking for.  Afterwards we went to Baton Rouge for dinner.  We went to the new one on Hunt Club by Mandarin Buffet.  I ordered the rib steak: medium-rare.

It was alright.  The steak was more medium than medium-rare (Julie's was the same.  She wanted medium-well, but got medium), and abit too salty.  The steamed vegetables were mainly carrots and almost raw too.  But the big thing was the portion size.  It was way smaller than I expected.  I had only eaten 8 Caramilk bar pieces and drank green tea today as I was expecting to eat alot for dinner.  The Kanata location portions are bigger and I think my last steak there was better too.  I also found the place to be abit crammed.  The tables were very close together and the place was loud.  I would recommend Kanata location over this one on Hunt Club.

Lunch today -> Greek Truck.
Last Food Truck Wednesday of the summer.  There was a Greek truck and a BBQ truck today.  I went with Greek as I've had them before and they were very good.  I got the pork souvlaki platter.  I noticed the tzatziki had abit of olive oil on it.  That was a nice touch and made it better.  I got to remember that for next time I have tzatziki.

Useless Gaming News:
3-player afterwork gaming tonight.  Another session of Castles of Burgundy.  We used random maps this time.  It was a close game to the end, but after scoring the extra points James just beat me by 7 points.  Took us 2hrs to finish the game.

It was so good.  Lots of noodles and meat.  I drank all of the broth too.  I'm soooo stuffed and satisfied :)

The herbs/flowers around the outside did really well too.  The Stevia plant (far right) has grown really tall.  I've eaten a couple leaves and they're really sweet.

The lemon-herb (far left) and the lavendar plant (purple flowers) are really fragrant.  The citronella plant (center) was planted to repel mosquitoes, but there weren't many mosquitoes this year to see if it was effective.
The tomatoes are still green, but I hope they ripen soon.  I've got about 30-40 of them, and they're all probably going to ripen at the same time.

HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY EVERETT!!!

Dinner today -> Little Sheep Hotpot.
Went to Little Sheep on Merivale with Susanna, parents, and grandparents.  We were the third ones there at 5:30pm, but the place filled up fast.  When we left at 7:15pm, the line was out the door. 
I got the 2 broth pot: Spicy and Regular.  There were alot of peppers in my broth, but it wasn't that hot.  It had a nice taste to it.  I definitely preferred it over the regular broth.

Unlike the old Little Sheep, the new one requires the table to order the food instead of going to get it yourself.  This is a HUGE minus.  Ordering and waiting took forever and they didn't bring everything we ordered. The food was good and we all got filled up after 2 round.  BUT the waiting for food between the rounds was what filled me up.  If I didn't have to wait, I could have eaten more.

I conclude this isn't worth it.  Our bill was over $150 (including using a Groupon for $20 off) for 6 people.  For the same money we could have done hotpot at home with more items they didn't have on the menu (ie liver, lobster claws) and the leftovers would have made a 2nd meal.

Useless Idol News:
Finally got my AKB48 "Love Trip" CDs from Japan today.  I got all normal version and the limited C version.  I also got older HKT48 and NMB48 Singles.  I'm hoping to pull a Kashiwagi or Kitarie picture from the Love Trip CDs.  I'd be happy with Sayanee or Yuihan pics too.

Asian Tacos

My internet was crawling yesterday, but it started to work perfectly fine and fast after 11:30 last night.  I was going to swap out my router at Rogers, but maybe I don't need to now?  BUT this could all be like how a dying light bulb glows brighter before burning out.

Food truck Wednesday and I got Asian Tacos from "Sula Wok" this time.  It was $5 per taco, but they were big and good.  I got the  Tibetan Curry Beef and a Sweet & Sour Pork taco.  Each had decent amount of meat, some seaweed salad, bits of vermicelli, cucumber strips, and spicy kimchi.  I topped the beef one with peanut sauce and the pork one with cucumber garlic sauce.  Finished both with some chopped peanuts and sesame seeds.

Snack yesterday -> Steve's Apple Pie.
Got a slice of Steve's homemade apple pie yesterday.  It was very good.  He makes it with lobo apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice.  I scarfed it down with some green tea at my desk.

Dinner today -> Salsa and Tostitos.
Got home at 11pm today.  I made a quick dinner by browning some ground pork and beef (pre mixed together from Walmart) and adding a can of Italian spiced diced tomatoes.  I thought I had onions and garlic, but I didn't.  So the salsa came out abit watery.

Useless Gaming News:
Stayed after work today to play 3-player Castles of Burgundy.  It was a learning game for James and Evan so it took us almost 3hrs to finish.  It didn't feel like that much time passed.  Evan won but it was close.  Mainly because James and I let Evan buy all the pigs without interference.  James and I were fighting over boats and mines.

Weekend Report -> Monkey Bread

Food this weekend ->
Went to Ginza Ramen with Julie this weekend.  I got the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen.  It was good and filling.  The portion size is fairly large for ramen.

Made some Monkey Bread, using Pillbury Cinnabun rolls, raisin, walnuts, and lots of sugar.  I filled the mold only halfway and the rolls puffed up to the top.

After flipping the monkey bread over, this picture doesn't do it justice.  It looks like a gooey mess and it is.  An awesome gooey mess.  It's really good and easily pulls apart, but it's so sweet.  I can't more than a few bites.

Sunday dinner was lamb and sugar snaps.  The mini lamb chops are from Walmart and they are a really good buy.

Useless Transformers News:
Found the latest wave of Headmasters at the Kanata Toys R Us.  Picked up Mindwipe, Highbrow, Chromedome, and Wolfwire.

Mindwipe kind of sucks in both robot and bat modes.  Highbrow's transform is very simple and not that great.  Also my Highbrow's headmaster has 2 right arms!  Wolfwire is the best one by far.  Good transform and both modes are good.

8 Yolk Moon Cake

Lunch today -> Shortcake Cookies.
Wasn't hungry today, so I ate a late lunch of shortcake cookies.  I ate about 5 of these.  I found these to be abit dry.  That was when I noticed these had expired last July.  They still tasted good, but just abit dry.

Dessert today -> 8 Yolk Moon Cake.
Had dinner at my parent's house.  After dinner ate a 8 yolk moon cake.  It was really good.  Today was the Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.  That's why moon cakes are on sale everywhere.

Lunch today -> Bison Burger.
Food Trucks Wednesday.  Actually only 1 truck today.  It was a BBQ truck.  I got the bison burger.  They threw in the fries for free (or by accident).  The bison burger was very good and juicy.  It was simply topped with abit of red onion and a big slice of tomato.  The fries were good too.  Almost rivals Glen's at Canadian Tire.

Got a notification to pick up a package at the post office.  I thought it was my AKB48 CDs, but it was actually Transformer Masterpieces MP-31 Delta Magnus.  I forgot this shipped from Ami Ami.  It reminded me that I still haven't opened MP-30 Ratchet yet.

Fortune Cookie Day

When I went out to check the garage this morning, I'm pretty sure the bird is gone.  I made some noise and I didn't see or hear it.  Well, I hope it's gone as I shut the garage door to go to work.

Made some free-range sunny side up eggs for dinner.  I also made some buttered toast and sliced some cheese sausages.  Quick and simple dinner.

Today was Fortune Cookie day.  I put out 2 baskets of fortune cookies in the 2 kitchens at work.  These cookies disappeared pretty fast.

Bird Stuck in the Garage

When I got home from work today, I opened the garage to get the hose out to water my plants.  When I was done, a little bird had flown into my garage and didn't know how to get out!

It would perch on my garage door opener or on the shelving in the back.  No matter what I did to get the bird out, it would only fly on top of the garage door and then fly to the back.  Is it not smart enough to fly out of the huge garage door opening!?!?

It's 11:30pm now and I found it sleeping on the garage door opener.  I'll leave the garage door open over night and hopefully it'll fly out by morning.  AND I hope it doesn't poop on anything!

FYI: Tuesday is Fortune Cookie Day!  We are celebrating at work.  It's an easy and cheap one to do.

Weekend Report: Softball Playoffs

Food this weekend ->
Went to the Kanata Ribfest on Friday for lunch.  My immediate stop was at Brick Yard BBQ.  I like thier food from last year and I wanted it again.

I got the Belly Buster: 1/2 rack of ribs, 1/2 jerk chicken, 1/2 pound of pulled pork, beans, rice, and corn bread.  All this food for $30.  The jerk chicken is amazing.  Better than the ribs.

Susanna and I went to the Night Market in Chinatown on Sunday.  It's better that it was when I went a few years ago.  The closed off a part of somerset by Chu Shing.  The vendors were in the parking lot.  We each got a whole squid on a stick.

We also waited in line for 10minutes for fresh smelly tofu.  It smells, but when you eat it, it doesn't taste like anything but the sauce.  You can taste the stink in your breath afterwards.

Susanna and I stunk like the smelly tofu.  The smell seeped into our clothes and hair.  The leftovers in my truck smelled up the whole car!

Useless Softball News:
Softball playoffs this weekend.  The CMC Strike Fighters didn't make it to the finals for the first time in 3 years.  We played GDC in our first game.  We blew a 15-12 lead in the last inning to lose in extra innings 15-16.  It was such a disappointing loss as we know we can beat them.
I hit 2-for-3 in that game with 2 singles.
Our 2nd game was against Edge-Kut'rz.  We lost 16-14.  We should have beaten them too, but we gave up 10 runs in the 1st inning.  That one bad inning cost us.

Kanata Ribfest Started

Snack today -> Thai Sweet Chili Chips.
Tried out the Lay's Thai Sweet Chili Chips flavour.  I didn't like it.  It tasted like BBQ chips.  It wasn't hot either.  I don't recommend it.  I ate about 2 handfuls and dumped the rest at the office.

Went to Fusion House  for dinner with my family, grandparents, and aunt.  We ordered a ton of food, but we didn't over order too much.  We got alot of different items, but most of it was sushi and sashimi.

FYI: Kanata Ribfest started today.  It's not advertised very well.  It's behind the big toboggan hill on Terry Fox.  I recommend Brick Yard BBQ.  Their ribs and chicken are very good.  I'm planning on getting some either at lunch on Friday or after my softball playoff game Friday night.
