Weekend Report: Happy Birthday Susanna!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSANNA!!!

Susanna went to the US for Black Friday, so we celebrated last week.  She probably faired better than me.  I went to the new Tanger Mall on Friday.  It wasn't very busy.  I went to get the shoes I wanted.  I picked up the Air Pegasus from Nike.  The whole store was 20% off.  Then I went to Addidas to get the SpringBlades as the sign said the whole store was 50% off.  So I tried them on, got in line for 10 minutes and when I got to the cash, the cashier told me the SpringBlade shoes were not included in the Black Friday sale.  There was a tiny little star with exceptions, and the exceptions were the shoes I wanted and another pair of shoes.  So annoying!  So I didn't buy anything from Addidas.

Food this weekend ->
Went to Urban Turban on Friday for lunch with Ed and Quashif.  Their lamb is really good.  Lots of pieces with marrow :)  The fresh Naan bread is great too.

Useless Gaming News:
Friday night was 6-player gaming at Anthony's place.  We started with Tsuro and then King of Tokyo.

We finished the night with a long game of Robo Rally.  In the weapon filled make with only 4 flags, I didn't pick up a single weapon and barely touched the 1st flag before the game was over.

Saturday night we played at Brian's.  Started with Scarbrough Fair.  The instructions read like it was a good game, but it really isn't.  It was a throw-in game from The Captain is Dead, which we played next.  This game is similar to Pandemic where everyone has to play their role or we lose.  It also felt like it was a 1-player game as the group decides your moves.

Then we played Nobel Treachery.  This game is great and uber fun!  I need a copy.  It's a simple card and dice game, but every player's turn can change the result of the round dramatically.  There is so much chaos it's fun.  This is a one of my new favorite games.  I'll need to call Kobald's Korner and Comic Book Shoppe to see if they have the KickStarter versions.

Dinner today -> Cream of Chicken Soup Pile-on.
Didn't know what to make for dinner.  In the fridge was some fresh shitake mushrooms and leftover steak.  In the cupboard was a can of Cream of Chicken soup and some noodle knots.  So I just threw them all together.  Cream of Chicken Soup can blend anything together.

I hooked up my Wii U to my projector to play Super Smash Bros.  The screen was pretty blurry.  I definitely need a new HD projector.

Discontinued Adapter

Dinner today -> Steak, Green Beans, and Mushrooms.
Mushrooms are on sale at Super Store: 3 packages for $5.  They had both white and brown ones.  I got 3 brown mushroom packs.  Also picked up a steak and some green beans from FarmBoy.  I scored the mushrooms with stars to make them look cool for the camera :)

Useless Gaming News:
I went to a bunch of stores today looking for the GameCube Controller Adapter for WiiU.  I was told it's pretty much sold out everywhere and was discontinued by Nintendo!  Discontinued already!!!  Amazon.ca had it for $99 while Amazon.com had it for $189!  I'm waiting for a 3rd party knockoff now.  Dumb move by Nintendo to discontinue it, they would have made alot of money as everyone wants one for Smash Bros.

Got a package in the mail today.  It's my Christmas present from Gavin.  He ordered me Super Smash Bros WiiU!  Thanks Gavin.  Should I wait until Christmas to open it, or will I just open it now... ?

It plays up to 8 players!  I need to go get the GameCube Controller Adapter.  I think the Game Cube Controller will provide better control over the fighters, and there are alot of fighters in the game.  It'll look awesome on my 100" projector, but if I upgrade to an HD projector, it'll look even better.

Weekend Report: Pop Expo 2014

I lost the United Way Chili Contest.  Jim won.  His was pretty good and spicy.  I think the judges were looking for a traditional chili (spicy, kidney beans, ground beef, and watery) while mine was mild, 8 beans, bacon and ground beef, and thick.

Family celebrated Susanna's Birthday early on the weekend, because she is doing Black Friday shopping on her birthday.  We went to the Chinese Buffet on Merivale for lunch.  They renovated by adding some TVs, a new omelette/pancake grill, and some new seat cushions.  No change in the food.

I got a Dagwoods' sandwich.  I haven't had one in a long time.  I got the original Dagwood with spicy Dagwood sauce.  The freshly cut cheese and meat, and the fresh Montreal Style bread is the difference between Subway and Dagwoods.

Useless Comic News:
I went to the Pop Expo on Sunday with Judy.  It wasn't very crowded, but alot of people were dressed up in costumes.  Saw the usual group of vendors and a few new ones.  We met Brandon Routh (aka Superman), and Judy got his autograph.  We also went to his Q&A Panel.  He answered questions about Superman, Arrow, Chuck, and random stuff like Bulletproof Coffee.

United Way Chili

Dinner today -> United Way Chili.
Made another batch of chili today.  It's my entry for the United Way Chili Contest at work.  I used my 8 bean mix, full pack of bacon, ground beef, garlic, red onion, corn, and quail eggs.  To spice it up, I put Tabasco sauce, Frank's Extra Hot Sauce, Cayenne pepper powder, and chili oil.  It's spicy, but not too spicy so the judges can actually taste the chili.

Saw this Elements calendar at the Calendar Store.  It like a normal calendar, but it comes with a periodic table!  If it's still here in the new year, I might get it.  Not sure where to put it, if I get it, as I'm still ordering an AKB calendar.

Went to Tanger Mall today with Susanna.  I was looking for a new running shoe.  Couldn't decide between 2 shoes.

Dinner today -> Deconstructed Salmon Avocado Sushi.
I got a nice chunk of salmon from FarmBoy.  I was thinking of making salmon avocado sushi with it, but the rice was going to take awhile to cool down, so I made a deconstructed salmon avocado sushi plate.  Basically stuff a bite-size piece of everything in your mouth and chew :)

Useless Gaming News:
Got my Kickstarted "Villages" game in the mail.  I sleeved the cards and read through the rules.  Seems simple, so I play tested the base set without expansions for 3-players by myself and is pretty good.  I think it might take awhile to reach 100 points in a full game.

1st Snowfall and Captial Services Delivers!

I'm all set for the snow today.  I switched back to Capital Services after last year's poor service from Kodiak (I should never have switched).  I don't mind paying abit more for the better service.  Too bad my neighbour still uses Kodiak.  Even today with the small amount of snow that didn't melt, Capital came to clear my driveway, while Kodiak is nowhere to be seen.  Excellent service.

Lunch today -> Sushi.
Got salmon avocado sushi from Sushi House at Hazeldean Mall for lunch.  I only got the 8 pieces and was still hungry because the lady before be bought all the big combo meals and ordered alot of a-la-carte.  She spent $42! 
I put big blobs of wasabi on each piece.  It takes alot for me to feel the effects, and with my nose plugged up, it helped clear it abit.

Useless Toy News:
I was at Hazeldean Mall at lunchtime because I had to get the Lego AT-AT.  It was on sale for $109 from $129 at Target.  BUT the Target Toy Flyer at the entrance of the store includes a coupon for this week only for an additional $20 off a $100 toy.  So I got the Lego AT-AT for $89 :)  Thanks Gordon for the tip.  As of noon Monday, there was only 1 Lego AT-AT left on the shelf.

Weekend Report: Recovery

Recovery weekend.  Didn't do much.  Slept alot, coughed alot, and made alot of green wontons from my nose and mouth.  Didn't go online.  Just watched some old episodes of Running Man and the new X-Men: Days of Future Past movie.  That X-Men movie fixed the mistakes of the first 3 X-Men movies :)

Made Chili Friday night.  8 Bean Chili with ground beef, corn, and almost a full pack of bacon.

I was defrosting a steak before I got sick, so I finally got around to eating it on Sunday.  Pan fried the steak with boiled mini-potatoes and mushrooms.  Topped the potatoes with FarmBoy Garlic Sauce.

Ate the unused bacon from the chili with eggs and freezer burnt Eggo Waffles.  I was going to eat it with Villagio bread, but the bread was growing mold.  The expiry date was Nov 23 too?!?

Still Sick

Still sick and it got worse today.  Definitely a head cold with a hacking cough.  I would have taken today and tomorrow off sick, if I didn't have so much work to do.  Atleast I can work from home and can cough and blow my nose as much and as loud as I want :)

Went to KNH again to get more pho #15XL.  I'm sure the broth is good for me.  Service is so fast too.  Got my order in no more than 5 minutes of waiting.

Yep, I'm sick.  I tried repressing my cough this morning with Cepacol and Halls cough drops, but after lunch has was having coughing fits with sneezing and a runny nose.  Surprisingly not too many "green wontons" were made.

Picked up some lunch from the Indian Market.  Got 3 Samosas (Veggie, Beef, and Chicken).  The beef samosa is the one I like the most.  I also got some butter chicken, curry beef, and roasted potatoes.

Remembrance Day

I'm getting sick.  Started getting a cough last night and I went to bed around 11:30pm, which is super early for me.  This morning I woke up with a very dry and itchy throat, hacking cough, and maybe a light fever?  By tonight I've developed a stuffy nose.  Damn it's getting worse.  I don't want to get sick...  I see myself making lots of "green wontons" tomorrow :)

After picking up some Cepacol cough drops, I picked up #15XL from KNH.  I figured the broth will be good for me.  It was very tasty too.

Made spaghetti with roasted garlic Alfredo sauce, sprouts, and mussels for dinner.  It was a big bowl, and I can't believe I ate the whole thing.

I finally checked out the Tanger Mall on Friday.  Lots of clothing and shoe stores.  There was a nice little park too.

4 Player gaming at Anthony's place tonight.  We started with a trivia game called "Bezzerwizzer".  Not a bad game, but I suck at trivia.

Then we played Cosmic Encounters (the right way).  It's a good space combat strategy game.  The many different races make the game different every time.
