Happy Halloween 2012!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2012!!!

I went to Bayshore before going home from work today.  Lots of little kids were at the mall, and they were all dressed up in costumes.  They were going trick-or-treating from store to store, getting free candy.  That was pretty cool thing for the mall to do.
BUT I was wearing my Superman shirt and I didn't get any candy :(  Age discrimination!!!  LOL

Useless Halloween Info:
As per my new Halloween tradition, I didn't hand candy out again this year.  I just left it out in a box on the front steps.  I filled it with Rockets, Bloody Eyeball Gum, and Mini-Caramel Chocolates.  I left a note to "Take 3 or 4".  After about 3 hrs I brought the box in and I was surprised there were candy left!

Useless Idol News:
The "Wreck-It Ralph" movie comes out this Friday, but the soundtrack was released yesterday.  I picked up the CD today, just for Track 4: "Sugar Rush" by AKB48.  It's an OK song, not awesome, just OK; but you can really hear Yuko.

Lunch today -> Special Ox Head Vermicelli.
Went to Ox Head today with Steve and Ed.  I've been there before, but they haven't.  We all got the Special Ox Head Vermicelli on my recommendation because I know it is better than KNH's vermicelli.  It's got less veggie filler, more noodles, way more meat, tastier meat, and a more complete and satisfying dish.  The prices are the same.

Useless Star Wars News:
Disney is buying Lucas Films.  Also, Disney is aiming to make Star Wars Episode 7 for 2015!  It's planned to be the 1st of a 3 movie trilogy too.

I found 3 of 5 Combaticons at the old Kanata Walmart today: Onslaught, Vortex, and Blastoff.  Does this wave come with only 3 Combaticons or all 5?

Meet Aiden

Congratulations to Thi and Will!!!  
It's a boy!  Baby Aiden was born on Oct 27.  Baby and parents are fine.

Dinner today -> Caesar Salad.
I made a Caesar salad for dinner, but there was no way I could just eat vegetables.  So I topped it with a 1/2 rack of ribs :) Ribs are on sale at Metro on Mondays.

I won a prize in the United Way CMC Bingo game.  I got a cool up-right stand for my cell phone, but because I have use a protective case, it doesn't stick to my phone :(

Useless Movie Info:
I stayed up til 4am last night to watch Resident Evil: Afterlife.  I haven't seen it yet, but it was not worth staying up to watch it.  I didn't think it was that good and nothing really happened in the movie but introduce Chris Redfield's character into the movie's storyline.

Useless Idol News:
Team 4's last show was on the weekend and Team A's last show was today.  The new teams will now perform "Waiting Stages" starting on Nov 1st, until their new stages are ready.

That's Lotsa Meatballs!

I saw on the news that a huge rain and wind storm is coming this way on Monday/Tuesday, and that New York City is shutting down Sunday night as a precaution!  The city that never sleeps, will sleep.
The news also said for Ontario and Quebec residents to prepare 3 days of food and water.
I wonder if this will affect Halloween Trick or Treaters?

Food this weekend -> Stuffed Meatballs.
I made a big batch of beef meatballs on Saturday and ate them all weekend.  I stuffed them with quail eggs, garlic, and water chestnuts.  I then egg washed, covered them with panko and deep fried them.  Yummy stuff :) 

The water chestnut gives them a nice crunch, but I should have chopped them into even smaller pieces.  Maybe I'll add rice next time I make it.
I made so many that I had to deliver some to Jeff's family and Susanna.

I plated some with rice, peas and corn, and lemon.  Freshly squeezed lemon is pretty good on the meatballs.

I got a package on Friday.  I got my Sasshi 2nd single CDs and the FreeCell magazine featuring Kasai Tomomi :)  Too bad Kasai's in the news for the wrong reasons lately, but maybe it'll turn out as media hype?

Lunch today -> McDonalds.
I wasn't planning on getting McDonald's for lunch.  I wanted sushi from Farmboy.  But because I made an impromptu trip to both Kanata Walmarts looking for some new Transformers (didn't find any), I needed to grab something quick.

I needed to pick up my car at Mazda at lunchtime today and Steve gave me a ride.  We made an impromptu trip to KNH for lunch.  Steve got the Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai:

I got a package today.  I got the anime AKB0048 dog tags.

I ordered 3 boxes to greater my chances of completing a full set of 18.  Each box has 12 packages with a 13th box topper demo tag.  All 3 of my boxes had Yuko as the topper :)

I thought that was great at first, BUT then I discovered 3 of my boxes had the exact same tags too!!!  Now I missing 6 tags for my set. I'm debating if I should order another box and try for the set.

Worldly Salts

Dinner today -> Fast Congee.
I made congee using the trick my mom showed me (freezing the rice), and it does work!  I added some left over rice, roastbeef, and a couple preserved eggs.

Speak of salt, I picked up this pack of worldly salts from Costco.  It reminded me of the time when Gavin, Emi, Ben, and I went to eat Yakiniku in Osaka, Japan.  There were different salt from around the world to flavour the grilled meat at the tables.  It was cool idea.

Dinner today -> Leftover Roast Beef.
I cooked some rice using the juices/drippings from the roast beef and the veggies.  Man, was the rice good and spicy :)  Nuked the last of the meat and veggies.

Useless Idol News:
Today was AKB48 Team B's final performance of Stage B5 "Theatre no Megami".  After this, the members will be shuffled into new A, K, and B teams.
I want to watch this performance.  I want to watch the last B5 performance of "Candy"!  Kasai moves to Team A, so I hope she gets another good song.

KNH Disappointment

Food this weekend ->
Went to KNH (Kanata Noodle House) with a couple boyz from CMC.  We got 3 dishes:
Shrimp, Beef, and Chicken Vermicelli,

and I got the Beef and vegetables with crispy egg noodles.

I was disappointed with my crispy noodles:

1. It looked way smaller than the last time I saw someone else get the same dish.
2. I was not full/satisfied after finishing the plate.
3. The biggest problem was there was celery included as vegetables.  The celery contaminated the whole dish and should never be used as filler or in asian cuisine.

I should have just gotten Pho or Vermicelli.

Got some buns from Chinatown Saturday morning: BBQ Pork Buns, Fried Curry Buns, and Hotdog Buns.

Picked up a blade beef roast on the way home.  Cooked it just like last time, except I cooked for 15 mins less.

But it still turned out medium, instead of medium rare.  I should really invest in a meat thermometer.

I got a call from Toys R Us to pick up a Masterpiece Prime.  They only held 1 for me, so I kept my raincheck for more later.

AKB48 was on a repeat episode of Music Station this weekend on TV Japan.  The girls performed Gingham Check and First Rabbit.

The rabbit imitations during First Rabbit are pretty cute.

Lunch today -> Scores 2 Leg Meal.
I got a couple of chicken legs for lunch with fries, gravy, coleslaw, and bread.  Only $11.41 for the meal.  The gravy was watery so after a few bites of chicken or fries, I would sip the gravy :)

Dinner today -> T&T Congee.
I got 4 containers of discount pork and preserved egg congee.  I like how T&T makes this with lots of preserved egg and pork.  The ginger they put in it is finger sized chunks so I can easily pick it out.

I got a couple more Nano cars.  I got a recycle garbage truck and a Pho Truck!  When I saw the pho truck, I had to buy this set :)

Lunch today -> Free Willy's Pizza.
I was in a meeting all day for one of my projects and unexpectedly, we got 4 large pizzas for lunch from Willy's!  Look at those bacon strips!

Medium Roast

Dinner today -> Roast Beef with Veggies.
I got a chunk of beef from Sobey's and roasted it in my stone pot with some mini-potatoes, organic carrots, onions, and garlic.
