Discount Roast

Dinner today -> Roast Beef.
I prepared a roast a couple days ago and dropped it off at my parent's house last night.  I then found another roast at Loblaws for $30, but it had a 50% off sticker on it.  So I bought it and prepared that one too.  Awesome deal.
My dad cooked both roast for dinner today.  It was good. 

2 Roasts over Vegetables.

The potatoes, organic carrots, onions, mushrooms (white cap and portobello; both were 50% off too) and garlic absorbed all the drippings.  I also brought some horse radish and some premium sweet mustard from France for dipping the meat.

The larger roast was a nice medium rare to medium.  The smaller would probably be a medium-well.

After dinner, Susanna and I went back to Loblaws and found 2 more roasts that were 50% off!  We bought those too for freezing.

Blue Lobster

Dinner today -> Fried Oysters.
I didn't know what to make for dinner tonight.  I just quick defrosted a bag of Korean oysters (running them under cold water), floured them, and fried them in olive oil and butter.  Served them on top of some instant chicken rice.

Useless Pet News:
Went to Pet Smart tonight to look for some new plants for my fish tank.  Didn't find any I liked, but I did find some Blue Lobsters.  They look so cool!  They cost $23 each for these tiny little lobsters.

Lunch today -> Meat Buns.
Had half a chinese sausage bun and a pork & nappa bun for lunch.  Buns from Montreal Chinatown are the best.

Impromptu gaming gathering at Jeff's place to play some board games while watching the Blue Jays Wild Card game.  We played Broom Service and King of Tokyo.  (BTW: Jays won.)

I tried out this Sweet Taro Milk Tea box drink from T&T.  It's really good and I like it.  It's got a nice taro taste, but I found it has a sweet aftertaste that sticks around for awhile after you're done drinking it.

Food this weekend ->
I thought I had a big meeting with one of my projects on Friday afternoon with the whole team.  So I bought a box of donuts for the team.

Mmm... Donuts.

Turned out it was just me and the manager.  We ate a couple each and then after the meeting I brought the leftovers to the team in the lab.

Potluck at Jeff & Linda's on Saturday.  I made Monkey Bread.  I replaced the walnuts with chopped apple and strawberrys.  I baked it fresh and brought it over to Jeff's in under 10mins and flipped it out of the mold.  It was deadly sweet and good.

Went to Montreal on Sunday for my uncle's birthday.  We ate lots of food for a late lunch and then cake.  The right cake was a caramel carrot cake.  The left cake was supposed to be a pineapple white cake.  Turned out, its also a carrot cake!  A pineapple carrot cake.

After potluck on Saturday we played some boardgames.  We played Machi Koro.  I finally won a game.  Cindy won the second game.  We shutout Everett who usually wins this game.

Baton Rouge on Hunt Club

Dinner today -> Rib Steak.
Meet up with Julie after work.  She was free to go Halloween mirror and Soundwave hunting with me on Merivale.  We didn't find either item I was looking for.  Afterwards we went to Baton Rouge for dinner.  We went to the new one on Hunt Club by Mandarin Buffet.  I ordered the rib steak: medium-rare.

It was alright.  The steak was more medium than medium-rare (Julie's was the same.  She wanted medium-well, but got medium), and abit too salty.  The steamed vegetables were mainly carrots and almost raw too.  But the big thing was the portion size.  It was way smaller than I expected.  I had only eaten 8 Caramilk bar pieces and drank green tea today as I was expecting to eat alot for dinner.  The Kanata location portions are bigger and I think my last steak there was better too.  I also found the place to be abit crammed.  The tables were very close together and the place was loud.  I would recommend Kanata location over this one on Hunt Club.

Lunch today -> Greek Truck.
Last Food Truck Wednesday of the summer.  There was a Greek truck and a BBQ truck today.  I went with Greek as I've had them before and they were very good.  I got the pork souvlaki platter.  I noticed the tzatziki had abit of olive oil on it.  That was a nice touch and made it better.  I got to remember that for next time I have tzatziki.

Useless Gaming News:
3-player afterwork gaming tonight.  Another session of Castles of Burgundy.  We used random maps this time.  It was a close game to the end, but after scoring the extra points James just beat me by 7 points.  Took us 2hrs to finish the game.
