Ding Dong Mixed Nuts

Useless Snack News:
I got this snack at Bayshore Walmart called Ding Dong.  It's a bag of mixed nuts from the Philippines.  It's very good.  The mix includes: peanuts, corn nuts, peas, "bugle" bits, and I think soy bean?  I want to get more.

Useless Gaming News:
Gaming at lunchtime and after work today.  We played 3 games of Dominion over both time periods.  Each game was very different and lots of fun.  Peter won at lunch, while Evan won both games after work.  James finished last in all 3 games.

When I got home, I had a package.  It was my Kickstarted version of Tokaido.  I've been waiting a long time for this Collector's Edition.  Eventhough I haven't played the game before, I hear it's good.

Rice Pea

Dinner today -> Northern Chinese Food.
For Ben's Birthday dinner, family went to Rice Pea restaurant for northern Chinese food on Carling.  Northern Chinese food is suppose to be spicy but this place makes it mild so you can taste the dishes.
We started with F05 Pork bone stewed with Chinese nappa cabbage.  It was good.  The broth was very good, but not much noodle in it and the wasn't much meat on the bone.  Ben insisted on getting this soup (even though it was labeled a stew).
Nappa Soup.
Next I think was N02 Hot Oil topped on handmade noodles.  This was my favorite dish.  It was a cold dish with a very tasty broth.   It looks super spicy but it wasn't.  I think this dish would be awesome in the hot summer.
Cold Spicy Noodle Soup.
The next plate was C11 Spicy Chicken with handmade noodle.  We got the half portion with extra noodle.  It was not worth it.  All the chicken were bone pieces, and I'm pretty sure it didn't add up to half a chicken.  Not alot of noodle either.  Alot of potato filler and little chicken bones.  Not a bad dish, but it was the worst dish from what we ordered.  I personally wouldn't order it again.
Chicken on Noodles.
E11 Fried pork intestine with chili sauce was next to arrive.  It was good.  Thinly sliced intestine was both crispy and soft.  The fried noodles were crispy like chips and works in this dish.  Not too spicy, but spicy enough to be good.
Pork Intestines.
E03 Skewered BBQ Lamb next.  A good lamb taste mixed with some spices.  Tastes like the time I got these at the Night Market.
Lamb Kabobs.
Not listed on the online menu, but in the physical menu, we ordered the fried sweet potato with egg yolk sauce.  This dish is amazing if you like egg yolk.  It's deep fried sweet potato fires covered in a egg yolk sauce/powder.  It is soooo good.  I would get this "to go" and snack on it.

We also ordered fried rice because it was almost the same price as paying for 5 bowls of white rice.  No pic.  It's just fried rice.

We ate cake from the Swiss Pastry afterwards.  Basic vanilla cake with buttercream icing.  It was so-so.  To me it didn't taste fresh.  I was hoping for a strawberry shortcake.

Season Opener Win

Lunch today -> Pita Pit
Steve and I went to Pita Pit for lunch today.  I haven't been there before, but it was really good.  I got the large chicken souvlaki with hummis, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, hot peppers, cheese, taziki, and honey mustard sauce.  The girl wrapped it up nicely and toasted it.  Steve got something similar but his guy didn't wrap it as nice and looked over stuffed and falling apart (or it was just Steve eating messily).  The large was satisfying, but not filling.  I could have easily ate a second one.

Dinner today -> Hot Dogs.
Had a late dinner after softball tonight.  Just microwaved some hot dogs on toast with Miracle Whip.  I also microwaved a bag of broccoli.

Useless Softball News:
CMC Strike Fighters season opener tonight against GDC Empty Pitchers.  We out played them for 6 1/2 innings and had a 25-5 lead going into the final half.  For some reason we always have 1 bad inning and in this last half we gave up 10 runs!  I didn't know we were at 25 so I thought GDC was making a comeback and going to win.
I hit 3-for-3 tonight with 1 double and 2 singles.  The double and first single were opposite field hits.  I also scored 2 times and was half a step behind to score for a third time.

Non-Pizza Pizza Pops

Useless Food News:
I was at Sobey's after work.  I found some Non-Pizza Pizza Pops on sale for $1 each.  These Pizza Pops were filled with Butter Chicken (with rice) and Poutine.  I didn't try them tonight, but I think both of these will be good.

Useless Transformers News:
Got some Masterpiece Transformers last Friday.  I got Shockwave and Hot Rod.  The stupid thing was that HLJ sent me an email notification that these shipped from my warehouse, then 2 hrs later, they sent me another email that Masterpiece Ratchet was in stock.  I could have shipped Ratchet in the same box for less shipping.

Staycation Weekend Report

Did some spring cleaning during staycation and I got stuff to make a garden.  I thought I did alot, but when I actually look around, I didn't do that much.  Oh well.
I found some old expired food in my cupboards, including some 3yr old moon cakes.  They look editable and smelled fine, but I didn't risk eating it.  I did take a bite of some 1yr old garlic bagel bites.  They tasted like old oil cover sawdust.

Food this weekend ->
Heated up a Feta and Spinach Kihi pastry on Thursday.  It was on sale at Basics.  It's pretty good, but it needs abit more salt or something to dip it in.
Kihi Pastry.

Picked up some Vietnamese subs on Friday.  I got both the soft bread version and the crusty bread version.  The crusty bread version cost 50 cents more, but I think it is a fuller meal.  It requires 2 bites per section compared to 1 bite for the soft bread version.  I got some for Susanna, Julie, and Roger.  I also had some Wendy's lemonade, but Julie took the strawberry version, so I was stuck with the regular version.  The strawberry lemonade version tastes way better.

Went to the Chinese buffet on Merivale with the family and my aunt from Connecticut.  The place was fairly empty.  It's usually more full when we go there on a weekend.  I think people went to try Mandarin instead.  The food this time was so-so.  I ate alot of mussels eventhough they were small and weren't that tasty.  There wasn't much "money" food to eat.  I think we should have gone to Mandarin.

Useless House News:
Susanna and I went to the Paderno sale at the Nepean Sportsplex.  Some good deals there.  I picked up a set of cutlery.  I needed it mainly for the teaspoons, and I like the checkered pattern.

Useless Transformers News:
Picked up Transformers: Combiner Wars Onslaught and Scattershot at the Kanata Toys R Us.  I was surprised to find Scattershot.  I didn't know he was out yet.  I was expecting to find Sky Lynx, but none were on the shelf and they were sold out at Merivale.

Staycation Starts

I start my "staycation" Thursday.  And as usual I had a ton of stuff to do at work before I got to go on vacation.  I got it done, but took me all day running around looking for people get things moving so I can do my part.

Useless Gaming News:
After work gaming tonight.  Only 3 players tonight.  We played Broom Service.  First game we added the advance clouds.  It changes the whole game with this slight variation.  James won followed closely by Peter.  I was well back.
2nd game we added the Mountain tiles and Amulets.  Another slight change added more to this already awesome game.  We all made mis-plays in the second game.  It was very close at the end where 1st and 3rd were only separated by 2 points.  James won with the end game bonuses because he had all the amulets while Peter and I only had 2 and 1 respectively.  3 more variations to add and we will be playing the full advance game: Forest tiles, Hill tiles, and Map B.

Jelly Legs

Useless Softball News:
CMC Strike Fighters practice after work today.  Most of the team showed up and we did a small scrimmage.  I was catcher for most of the practice, as I was getting my legs prepared for squatting alot.  When I took a turn at bat and got a hit, my legs were jelly while running the bases.  It usually takes me 1 game to get back into shape, but this good practice might suffice.

Dinner today -> Rideau Take-out.
Went to Rideau after practice.  I got beef chow mein and dry fried beef rice noodles.  I finished the rice noodles dish, but I think I'll save the chow mein for Wednesday.
